SEASICK STEVE

Artist Information
Seasick Steve is set to bring his brand of rootsy American blues to the heart of London on Saturday 27th June.
Rewind a couple of years: New Year 2006. Jools Holland's annual ‘Hootenanny’ TV show features Seasick Steve. Wearing old dungarees and with a long grey beard, he cuts an unlikely figure on this annual party show. With a wooden box (his "Mississippi Drum Machine") and a three-string guitar (his "Three String Trance Wonder") he causes a small revolution.
The old blues man – although he calls himself a ‘song and dance man’ - becomes a household name within three minutes. He does for the blues what Buena Vista Social Club have done for Cuban music.
Steve Wold (which is his real name) had been in the business for over 50 years then. Most of the time as a roaming musician. With his Norwegian spouse and his five children he moves 55 times in a quarter of a century. A heart attack brings him to a niche in Norway. He is 63 when he records his first album. He is 66 when he takes home the MOJO Award for Best Breakthrough. And he will be 68 when he plays Hard Rock Calling, beating our headliner for the same night (Neil Young) by a few years...
